1. When did you start boating?

As ironic as it sounds, I was never an avid boater growing up. I had lots of friends who were boaters. We'd all hang around the Horseshoe Harbor Yacht Club, in Larchmont. They'd race on weekends and take care of boats. I'd occasionally tag along, but was really content just being around  the water and around boats. At the time, most boats had wooden hulls, and  required a tremendous amount of maintenance. The yards were always full of  people working  diligently, and the smell of paint  and varnish was always thick in the air. Fond memories indeed.

Excerpts from an article in Sea Chest by Ted Foltyn

Is the gasoline you put in your yacht destroying your fuel tanks and putting your engine at risk?

The EPA requires the addition
of an oxygenate to gasoline to reduce exhaust emissions. The most commonadditive, MTBE (Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether) is now being banned in many places and replaced by ethanol, first in heavily populated urban areas and now broadly by many states.

12 Miles off the coast of Rhode Island sits a little paradise called Block Island. Settled in
1672, this Atlantic jewel is just seven miles long and three miles wide, but boasts astounding natural beauty and the perfect refuge for New England boaters.

But for those with larger vessels, or winter work needs, professional hauling and storage is the way to go. Good news: Our 20+ Brewer Yacht Yard locations offer customers several choices for hauling and storage and service.  The yards will decommission, winterize and inspect your boat and its systems. Then, once your boat is hauled, we power wash and inspect everything below the waterline and then block her up for storage.
