Design
At first glance, the Alerion 28 looks almost timeless;
- A long, gently sloping bow and sweeping sheer line
- A low freeboard that keeps the boat sleek
- Rich teak trim and cockpit coamings
- A simple, uncuttered deck
- A large open cockpit that comfortably seats four to six people.
- Although it resembles a classic wooden yacht, beneath the waterline it has a modern fin keel and balanced spade rudder, giving it much better speed and maneuverability than traditional designs.
Sailing Characteristics
The Alerion 28 was designed primarily as a daysailer - a boat that's enjoyable to sail for an afternoon without requiring a large crew.
Owners often praise it for:
- Excellent balance on the helm
- Light, reponsive steering
- Easy single-handed sailing
- Predictable handling in moderate winds
- Fast enough to be exciting without feeling demanding
Many boats are equiped with a Hoyt Self0tacking jib boom, which automatically swings the jib through tacks. This makes sailing upwind exceptionally simple and eliminates much of the line handling found on conventional sloops.
Accommodations
Below decks, the cabin is intentionally modest. It's suitable for two adults on a weekend cruise, can sleep up to 3 people with V-berth forward and port settee in salon. To starboard is the limited galley with sink forward, then seat, followed by the navigation station or additional counter space for food prep. The ice chest is the cooler that also serves as the step into the salon from the cockpit.
- Basic overnight accommodations

the4 emphasis is clearly on cockpit comfort and sailing rather than extended cruising.

Comments
Her present owner has enjoyed her for over 10 years. He looked up and down the East coast before settling on the purchase of "Coup de Foudre". Her name which is French, literally translates to "Lightening Strike" but idiomatically means "Love at First Sight". She is a lovely vessel that is looking for her next owner to enjoy.
