Overview

  • The Legacy 40 was introduced in the 1990's as a Down East inspired cruiser. Designed by renown designer Mark Ellis, known for the Limestone powerboats, Nonsuch and Niagara sailboats. Ellis based the 40 footer's lines on the signature lobster yachts that were popular along the Maine coast.
  • In building the traditional looking Legacy 40 with modern technology in materials and design, the boat caught on quickly in the upscale cruiser market, attracting not only longtime powerboats but former sailors as well. Its 12 year production run, which continues today, is testament to the boat's quality construction, spacious and refined interior and luxury amenties.
  • This good looking, traditional. DownEast yacht will continue to turn heads well into the future.

"Quest" history

"Quest" has had exceptional owners that have taken great care of her. Her life started here on the Chesapeake Bay until her previous owner moved her to Lake Champlain where she lived until the present owners bought her and trucked her back to the Chesapeake. She is hauled out in the Winter and anything needed attended to. Low hours on her single Cummins 450HP diesel engine, Onan Generator, reverse cycle AC/HT, bow thruster and more. Her exterior maintenance is low with no exterior teak and she is protected by updated canvas, such as a Tonneau cover for the cockpit, New drop canvas and Eisenglass enclosure for the bridge deck (helps to extend the season with AC/HT in this area as well) and a brand new Bimini has been built by Quantum sails for additional shade in the cockpit area.

Accomodations

  • The Legacy Express is a very versatile vessel. She has a large cockpit that can accommodate multiple chais, has a floor fitting for a table, multiple hatches afor additional storage and 2 large "Frigid-Rigid" refrigeration boxes that not only give you a ton of food storage for extended cruising but also serve as additional seating in the cockpit. Her hardtop is surrounded on 3 sides by large windows allowing for excellent visibility. two side opening windows, center opening windshield, and 2 overhead hatches provide plenty of light and ventilation. Her bridge deck can be fully enclosed with Eisenglass and cavvas, making this area a comfortable salon that is both heated and air-conditioned as well as offering an L-shaped settee, port side mates seat and a double wide helm seat with storage under.
  • Her centerline companionway leads down to an additional L-shaped dinette with table to starboard that can convert to a double berth for guests. Opposite to port is the U-shaped galley and forward of the galley is the day access to the head with vanity, toilet and separate show stall. An additional door give private access to the forward Master Stateroom. The Master stateroom is all the way forward with a centerline queen berth, cabinets outboard and lovely teak ceiling strips line the hull sides adding warmth to the stateroom. For storage there are drawers under the berth, Cedar lined hanging lockers port and starboard, a huge locker aft to starboard and to port is the private access to the head. Overhead hatch for light and ventilation as well as opening portlights in the cabin sides.
  • Her interior is very welcoming and done in the "Herreshoff" style with white bulkheads and cabinets and trim in teak. She is bright yet cozy below deck. Lovely teak and holly sole throughout as well as overhead hatches and opening cabin side portlights, again offering great ventilation and light.
  • She has a low maintenance exterior with no wood. She has stainless steel handdrails that are both high and sturdy, wide fiberglass decks and nonskid, as well as rubber cap rails. Her classic design by Mark Ellis stands out in a crowd with a proud bow and lovely sheer line, she is the epitome of a classic Down East Design.
  • Quest is a lovely vessel that has had the best of care by her knowledgable owners, ex-sailors and retired Navy. You will see as you go through the listing of all the upgrades they have made.
