CONSTRUCTION

Liberty was designed by marine architect Kevin Burns and built in Rockland, Maine in 2011 by Back Cove Yachts, a sister company of Sabre Yachts. The Back Cove has a resin-infused hull with Divinycell foam-core sandwich decks and stringer system. The exterior finish is gelcoat. She is designed with a deep-vee hull, flared bow, hard chines, longitudinal strings. The deck assembly is cored with composite foam and finished with a molded-in nonskid. Engine access is obtained by an electric lift in the wheelhouse. The transom is outfitted with a centerline door leading to a fiberglass swim platform. The opening ports are stainless steel finished with screens. The deck hardware and bow rail and stanchions are also stainless steel. The cockpit is self bailing, the bilge and engine room are gelcoated.

ENGINE

The Yanmar diesel engine, 6LY3, 315 HP, is 6 cylinders, turbo charged, and fresh-water cooled via the heat exchanger. Engine hours are 506. The shaft is 1 1/2" stainless steel, with cutters, to a 4-blade bronze propeller. Bronze rudder. SeaStar hydraulic steering. The vessel is equipped with both bow and stern thrusters.

TANKS

Fuel - 184 gallons in one polyethylene tank under the stern deck. Deck-mounted fill.

Water - 58 gallons in one polyethylene tank with a deck-mounted fill.

Holding - 30 gallons in a polyethylene tank, Type III with Y-valve

ELECTRICAL

Two 12v batteries engine and house in battery boxes. The 16-circuit electrical panel, including voltage and amp meters, is located in cabin on aft starboard bulkhead. Battery charger, Shore power inlet and cord. Outlets are throughout the boat. 1800 watt inverter. Navigational lights interior lights. Two SmartSolar MPPT 100/30 Long-Range panels mounted on the wheelhouse top.

ACCOMMODATIONS

The foredeck features the stainless steel plow anchor mounted on the pulpit and attached to chain and rode housed in the anchor locker below, anchor windlass foot pedal, chocks, cleats, and stainless steel bow rail that extends to the aft end of the wheelhouse. On the cabintop is a large hatch. The windshield consists of three windows with three electric wipers with large port and starboard sliding windows providing excellent visibility. The aft canvas with isinglass and zippers enclose the back. On the wheelhouse top are hand rails port and starboard and a mast to hold the Garmin dome, electric horn, and antennas and two large solar panels. The cockpit features cushioned wrap-around aft seating with a centerline transom door to the fiberglass swim platform.

Down in the forward cabin are the cushioned vee berths with lockers below that can be converted to one large double berth with the filler piece and cushions stored above. Next aft to starboard is the galley that offers good storage via lockers below the Corian counter and shelves outboard. The stainless steel sink with pressure hot and cold water, microwave, single electric/alcohol burner covered stove top and refrigerator/freezer below all contribute to a well outfitted galley. To port is the enclosed head with an electric flush, sink with a pull out faucet for showering, and lockers above and below. A MarineAir system provides both heat and A/C for the cabin and wheelhouse. The four opening ports with screens throughout the cabin and overhead hatch provide nice natural light and good ventilation. The cabin sole is finished teak and holly. Fittings are provided for a movable varnished cherry pedestal table in the cockpit and between the vee berths. The very attractive joinery is cherry woodwork that exhibits fine craftsmanship.

Up three steps into the wheelhouse with the helm to starboard. The well-organized dash features built-in electronics, gauges, and controls. Cushioned pedestal chairs, port and starboard with aft cushioned settees, port and starboard, with the port settee convertible into a full-length berth. The engine room is accessible by the electric wheelhouse sole lift. It is a very clean space and engine with good access to the systems.

Liberty is an exceptionally maintained and clean Back Cove. She is in step-aboard condition, maneuvers and docks well with her bow and stern thrusters, and moves along with good speed cruising at 20 knots. If you are looking for a good-looking Downeast cruiser with stability and comfort, this Back Cove 30 is worth your consideration.
